Beautifully handmade African basket originating from Senegal. I was told that this was handmade by the seller's own tribe near Mali. He brings baskets to the US from Africa via air carrier and sells them on the street at the Culver City Farmer's Market here in Los Angeles.
I love the subtety of the white wrap, made from recycled plastic, against the organic texture of the grass basket.
These baskets, while used by the Malians as bread warmers, make for wonderful decorative home storage. Consider using yours for toy storage, a small contained diaper pail or for layering under a console table in your entry or living room.
Some of the plastic threads around the grass have come loose here and there, which I assume is typical, due to it's handmade nature. It doesn't detract from the basket, and only makes it that much more endearing.
With the lid on the basket stands 12" tall and 15" wide.
