Our collection of vintage African indigo pillows are sourced from the antiques fairs and markets in Southern California. African indigo has become an important export for Mali, Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast. These textiles are finding a second life as textiles for our homes. Their initial purpose was to clothe the people that weave and hand dye each piece. Each piece is made of a sturdy cotton that has worn in time to result in a buttery smooth faded denim. These vintage textiles can be quite fragile. We are sure to back and double line these pillows in a strong organic muslin to relieve stress on the vintage fibers. We recommend that these pillows be dry cleaned. Their imperfections, and the spots that have been hand-mended by the original owners of the fabric are seen as endearing qualities.
